How to Cut & Paste Data From Google Docs to Other Documents

Google Docs makes it easy for you to share your documents. Google Docs is a comparatively new approach productivity software. Not only does Google Docs let you create and edit various document types for free, but it also stores those documents securely online and gives you easy options for sharing those documents with others. Google Docs includes many innovative features among productivity software, but it also has all the basics covered, like cutting and pasting data, which you can do with just a few mouse clicks.

Difficulty:Easy1
Access Google Docs by navigating your web browser to “docs.google.com”. If you aren’t currently signed into your Google account, you’ll need to provide your username and password.
2
Select the document you want to cut data from using the left-hand navigation pane. You can also use the “Search Docs” text box near the top of the window, where you can type the beginning of the document title or even a phrase from within the document itself.
3
Select the item or items you want to cut from your Google document. You can always cut highlighted text, and in the text-based “Document” files you can cut images as well, though there are limitations on other sections of Google Docs. If you’re viewing a spreadsheet document, and you select one or more cells, you cannot cut that data; Google will instead copy it. Many non-text items in “Presentation” and “Drawing” documents, like text boxes, images and shapes, cannot be cut or copied into other documents.
4
Cut the data by clicking the Google Docs “Edit” menu and selecting “Cut.” Do not click the “Edit” menu at the top of the web browser, if you’re using a browser with a toolbar. You can also cut the data by pressing and holding the “Ctrl” key and then pressing the “X” key.
5
Open the document you want to paste the data into. You can open another Google document, or you can use a program on your computer like Microsoft Word.
6
Place your cursor at the location you want the data moved to and paste it by clicking the “Edit” menu and selecting “Paste.” You could instead use the keyboard shortcut “Ctrl” plus “V.”
