Can You Export in Google Reader?

Google Reader launched in October 2005. Many websites, particularly blogs and news feeds, provide a version of their content as an RSS feed. You can use an RSS subscription reader such as Google Reader to read the latest content from all the feeds to which you subscribe in one place, as opposed to manually checking each source multiple times per day to see if they have posted new content. If you want to move your subscriptions from Google Reader to another service, you can export your subscriptions.

To export your current Google Reader subscriptions, sign in to your account at google.com/reader and click the gear icon in the top right corner. Click the “Import/Export” tab under Reader Settings. Click “Export your subscriptions as an OPML file.” Click “Yes” if prompted to save a file. You now have a file saved to your computer containing a list of all your RSS subscriptions in a format that another RSS reader can understand.
An OPML — short for Outline Processor Markup Language — file is a plain text file ending in the extension XML containing a set of data, in this case information regarding each RSS feed in your Google Reader account. The uniform nature of the data in an OPML file, with each item containing the same values, such as feed name and URL, in the same order, makes it easier for other programs to read it.
You can open an OPML file in any text editor, such as Notepad. Open the folder in which you saved the Google Reader export, such as “My Downloads.” Right-click on the .xml file and choose “Open with,” then “Notepad.” Each RSS feed entry is contained within ”
You can import your downloaded OPML export into another RSS reader or into another Google Reader account. To import your subscriptions into a new Google Reader account, sign in to the second Google Reader account and click the gear icon. Select the “Import/Export” tab. Click “Choose File” and double-click on the OPML file. Click “Upload” to import your subscriptions.
